the funk of 40,000 years....

well, embedding was disabled by request, so i'm gonna link to this m.f. =

Michael Jackson - Thriller

this was one of my favorite records growing up, and can probably be viewed as partially to blame for my current horror-obsessed brain (i love and loved vincent price's voice-over), so i have to pay respects to the man who sang "the man in the mirror." yeah, you had some rough times m.j., but you also brought a lot of people a lot of joy. my cousin val told me yesterday that she hates the phrase "r.i.p." because it makes her think of zombies, and she doesn't need to be thinking of zombies when someone is paying respect to their grandmother. in that respect, i can't help myself:

and now, because we could probably all use a laugh, i got an email about this site this morning:

Your Baby Is An Asshole

awkward photo choice.....

i'm sure wherever she is, whomever she is, this woman does not appreciate her hindquarters being compared to a sinkhole. just sayin'

word has it that superman, norway tipped them off...

Excuse me, I would like to live in Batman...

can you imagine if a rash of towns, named after super heroes, formed a justice league, and they fought super-villainy worldwide?

a boy can dream, can't he?

who would have thought space butterflies could be metal?

Mastodon "Oblivion"

also? watch for the "fail!" around minute two.

totally not "fail?" jay-z's new song "D.O.A."

the idea that one of the biggest names in mainstream hip-hop is releasing his new record (the blueprint III) without any auto-tune (from mtv), smack in the middle of our cultural auto-tune lovefest, BLOWS my mind. there's a reason jay's the best at what he does. he just auto-tuned my heart.

also? i can't really speak for the song (they're pretty hit-or-miss in general), but the new killers video just gave brian fallon (of gaslight anthem) a heart-boner:

i imagine that's what the inside of his head looks like. i'd be curious to hear gaslight do this song, actually, maybe give it a little more spine and a little more soul. someone want to tell him to get on that?

a feedbag of truckstop linkage

none of this has anything to do with feedbags or truckstops, i just felt like referencing lagwagon. anyway, even though i feel like the era of the mashup has passed a bit (girl talk's amazing feed the animals notwithstanding; there was TOO much mashup in that for it to really be considered the same kind of beast -- it's like comparing a stuffed animal of a kitten with a full-grown tiger), one of my coworkers forwarded me this this morning, and it was so awesome, i had to share:

and then there's this, which my cousin sent me, and which is alarmingly true, at least for the first 1/2:

30 Rock is a Rip Off of the Muppet Show!

ooh, and what's this?

FUTURAMA!!!!
